ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions Australia is the official sponsor of the upcoming Architecture & Design’s 2019 Sustainability Awards.

Now in its 13th year, the prestigious Sustainability Awards program recognises and honours sustainable building and design projects with an emphasis on ecologically friendly and more efficient built environments.

“With ASSA ABLOY’s ongoing commitment to a more sustainable future, we’re delighted to be partnering with the Awards, sponsoring the Intelligent Building Category for this event. Sustainability is an integral part of product innovation at ASSA ABLOY. We work to ensure that newly designed products are as efficient as possible. The intention is to develop new product concepts that solve customer problems and create customer value, based on sustainable solutions and processes - it is a key driver throughout ASSA ABLOY’s value chain,” says Mercedes Maniati, ASSA ABLOY national marketing manager.

“With environmentally conscious design and build at the forefront of most markets, we offer a complete range of access solutions that are energy efficient, compliant and also intelligent,” she added.

The two finalists in ASSA ABLOY’s sponsored category of Intelligent Building are Mirvac’s South Eveleigh Building and CplusC Architectural Workshop’s Welcome to the Jungle.

South Eveleigh Building by Mirvac

In setting out to transform the Australian Technology Park (ATP) in Eveleigh, Sydney, Mirvac’s goal was to create a significant destination for work, diverse retail and the community. The new precinct, renamed South Eveleigh, opened in 2019 and will be completed in 2020. Axle is one of three new commercial buildings with advanced sustainability features that will sit within South Eveleigh. With this building, Mirvac has taken a significant leap forward in responding to the future of work, designing a space that weaves flexible working and environmental sustainability into a future-proofed office environment.

Welcome to the Jungle by CplusC Architectural Workshop

The three-storey home is built within a rejuvenated heritage façade of a long-unoccupied two-storey shop-top house sitting on a 98sqm triangular shaped corner site with north, east and west solar access and outlook. Galvanised steel planter beds provide the structural bracing between the two skins and are filled with plants that cool the incoming breezes via transpiration. A 1600L aquaponics fishpond is linked in a cyclical system to the accessible rooftop of planter beds, providing the native Australian plants and fruits and vegetables, nutrient-enriched water enabled by the edible silver perch (fish) that inhabit the pond.

The 2019 Sustainability Awards will be presented at a gala dinner on 7th November at The Star, Sydney.

The Sustainability Live program to be held earlier in the day will provide participants an opportunity to engage in live topic discussions with a range of highly regarded industry experts as well as earn CPD points.
