ASKIN Performance Panels was engaged to manufacture and install panels from their Exteriors range at the new international terminal of Avalon Airport in Melbourne.

Designed by DesignPhase Australia and built by Qanstruct, the new international terminal was required by Avalon Airport operator Linfox to provide over 7000 square metres of terminal space and supporting infrastructure. The new terminal would be completely separate from the existing domestic terminal.

As part of the design, engineering and construction process, ASKIN worked collaboratively with FM Global and all relevant stakeholders to ensure the strict standards for FM Approvals were met.

ASKIN Performance Panels manufactured and installed over 4,000 square metres of XFLAM Exterior panels in Colorbond Paperbark and 1,270 square metres of XFLAM feature façade/ parapets in Sky Red. Custom designed and manufactured security doors and frames were also installed at the new terminal.

The construction of the new international terminal at Avalon Airport involved the services of 126 different subcontractors engaged by Qanstruct with 1100 workers on site throughout the construction period.

In spite of the tight installation program, the complexities of working in a secure airport, and design changes that increased the project size, ASKIN was able to keep up with the project deadline.

The new international terminal is designed as a state-of-the art space offering simple comfort for passengers as well as plenty of room for future expansion. Key facilities include two duty free stores, TRS facilities, a full bar and café, and intelligent CT cabin baggage screening for international travellers.
