ARDEX Australia supplied panDOMO Floorplus cement finish to the new Alpha Mosaic Hotel, Brisbane, which opened in June this year.

The new Brisbane hotel features ARDEX panDOMO Floorplus floor topping throughout the entrance foyer, lift loft and reception. The first project in Australia to use the CEE colour enhancer, the hotel featured panDOMO on an area covering 90 square metres.

Andrew Dore of Surface Archetypes who completed the installation said the project involved quite a few challenges. For instance, there were a number of areas immediately surrounding the foyer with timber flooring, requiring them to create a colour that would complement the timber. The installers were also required to meet the height at all junctions, which meant a base height of approximately 12ml was installed, topped by 6-8ml of panDOMO to ensure the smoothest possible finish.

According to Fabian Morgan, Sales and Marketing Director, ARDEX Australia, the Alpha Mosaic Hotel was the first project in Australia to use the CEE colour enhancer, which is formulated to enhance and enrich the natural colour of panDOMO, allowing them to create virtually any colour.

panDOMO Floorplus was selected by designer Cressida Kennedy, Space Control Design to suit the hotel fitout. She chose the panDOMO floor finish after reviewing all the concrete topping options available in the market. Kennedy explained that she found the seamless finish and colour range perfect for the hotel foyer.

Since the hotel’s foyer would also experience a lot of foot traffic, the special sand reinforcement was embedded into the wet flooring during the installation of Floorplus to improve abrasion resistance by 30 per cent.
