Doors and windows from Architectural Window Systems were specified for a new home located in close proximity to Moreton Bay in Queensland.

Cleveland House is a beautiful home designed by Sprout Architects to address the owner’s desire for a space that was in perfect harmony with the natural surrounds. However, the marine location also exposed the home and all its fixtures to harsh conditions as well as Queensland’s weather extremes. It was imperative that the products selected for the home were able to endure the harsh environment.

Bretts Architectural Window Solutions, the fabricator on the project, was consulted to find the ideal mix of windows and doors. Since the owners were keen on a design that gave them the flexibility of indoor or outdoor living depending on the climate, Bretts recommended AWS Elevate 411 ViewMASTER bifolds for the kitchen and informal living area as well as full-width AWS 704 SlideMASTER doors for the upper-level bedrooms due to their ability to be screened and left partially open for ventilation.

To prevent damage from the high tides, the deck required the installation of water-resistant sub-sills.

Sunergy Neutral glazing was installed throughout the home to meet the energy assessment requirements while double-glazed 24mm IGU was chosen for the luxurious spa room. Breezway powerlouvres at every elevation and anodised aluminium blades in the clerestory louvres additionally helped achieve ultimate airflow and temperature control in the home.

The Cleveland House received a Highly Commended at the prestigious AWA Design Awards 2016, Best Use of Windows & Doors: Residential, in the New Construction Over $500,000 category.
