Window and sliding door systems from Architectural Window Systems (AWS) were specified for an impressive modern house located high on a ridge overlooking Sydney’s stunning Northern Beaches.

Warriewood House is a light, cantilevered two-storey home perched above a double garage with a full-width wooden door. Given the sweeping ocean views from the house, there was never any doubt that windows would be a major feature in the design.

Designed by Ergo Architecture and Interiors for the builder Cumberland Building, the house featured a modern interior by Arent & Pyke with Evolution Window Systems Pty Ltd serving as the fabricator. The coastal location necessitated the use of quality fixtures and fittings that would withstand the winds, rain and saline environment. The chosen products also needed to fit seamlessly within both the exterior and the slick, modern interior.

Cumberland Building turned to AWS to ensure the extensive window systems would stand the test of time and also hit the right aesthetic note. Current design standards additionally demand systems that deliver energy efficiencies and meet all safety ratings.

AWS’ Elevate Series 704 sliding door was configured as a 90° corner stacker sliding door, creating space and a beautiful barrier between the indoors and the casual seating and BBQ area.

The final outcome ultimately earned an MBA Award for Cumberland Building. According to the MBA panel, ‘The design and placement of windows ensures there is ample natural light throughout the building’. The panel also commended the way the property utilises ‘thermal passive design for optimal cross ventilation and well exceeds its BASIX requirements’.
