The ecoWall 225 flush glazed commercial framing system from ALSPEC was specified for the Cairns Aquarium & Marine Research Centre in Cairns QLD.

Designed by Peddle Thorp Architects and built by FKG Group, the new tourism facility was awarded the Queensland Master Builders Association ‘Project of the Year’ for Far North Queensland. Designed to showcase the biodiversity of one of Australia’s most famous attractions, the Cairns Aquarium is providing visitors to the region the ability to experience the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef from the comfort of a world-class venue.

The aquarium, which is now home to more than 15,000 aquatic animals, fish and plants, features a striking entrance constructed with panes of sapphire blue glass and Alspec’s high performance window framing solutions.

Alspec’s ecoWall 225 flush glazed commercial framing system was chosen to create a distinctive façade for the marine centre. Alspec’s window framing system was specified for its acknowledged structural integrity and capacity to span large spaces.

In this particular installation, the ecoWall has been used in a spectacular outward sloping façade (at an angle of 11 degrees) to a height of nine metres. Featuring reinforced subheads and mullion anti-buckling technology, the ecoWall 225 is ideal for enclosing large commercial foyers and can accommodate single and double glazing options as required.

The ecoWall installation was completed by fabricator, HPS Glazing. The framing system had a powder-coated finish using Dulux Durectec Zeus Lunar Grey + Dulux Eternity Citi Silver.
