Aglo Systems was engaged by leading sports and casual wear retailer, JD Sports to design the lighting system for their first-ever Australian store.
JD Sports is a leading retailer of fashionable, multiple-brand sports and casual wear in the UK and Ireland. The Melbourne store is the first of several Australian store rollouts in the pipeline.
JD Sports’ lighting design concept for all their stores comprised of precise lux levels for different areas of the store, 1.43m long suspended black linear extrusions throughout the site for general lighting, tubular track lights for the wall bays, and gondolas, also in black.
Since the interior design concept featured darker elements such as black ceilings, black shelving, dark grey flooring and grey walls, Aglo’s lighting design team specified higher lumen fittings to meet the required lux levels and compensate for the all-over darkness in the store. The linear extrusions were suspended at regular intervals, and dual lengths of high output LED strip were inserted into Aglo’s ‘Stealth AS XL’ extrusions to meet the required lux levels for these lights, adding up to a total of 50W for each linear fitting.
Aglo’s 24W Turin spotlights were specified for track lighting while square Oyster LED lights were sourced for the change rooms specifically for JD Sports. All of the lighting systems boast a high CRI90 to ensure accurate colour rendering of the merchandise and 4000K for a cool white light colour.
Aglo Systems also provided a light angling service after installation with each fitting angled to suitably illuminate every sales display.
Aglo’s lighting design and LED fittings met all the required lux levels of at least 1000lx for general lighting and 2000lx for gondola displays. The design also complied with Building Code of Australia (BCA) regulations on maximum wattage per square metre area. The store has even illumination, brilliantly highlighted displays and a welcoming ambience.
Since the Melbourne project, Aglo Systems has provided their lighting design service and LED fittings for JD stores in Parramatta (NSW) and Pacific Fair (QLD).
