Aconex , one of Asia’s fastest growing technology companies, has opened for business in India to provide its online information management service to the country’s construction and resources sectors.

Aconex Managing Director Leigh Jasper said: “India is currently the fastest-growing construction market in the world and we look forward to servicing this thriving market.”

Aconex has already secured several high-profile contracts in India and is currently facilitating a major gas field development project near Mumbai, and the construction of two electronics manufacturing plants in Chennai.

The Aconex service helps replace unstructured forms of communication such as e-mail, paper documents and couriers by managing project data online through one central site. This enables companies working on a construction project to view, track and share documents – such as drawings, building plans, workflows and correspondence - at any time and from any location.

The result of using Aconex is increased control through centralising information; increased productivity through easier collaboration; reduced administrative costs such as couriers, printing and stationery; and reduced exposure to risks such as information loss and outdated documents.

India’s economic growth has led to an increasing number of large-scale construction developments. These projects can involve hundreds of companies that generate hundreds-of-thousands of documents and correspondence, making effective information management vital for completing a project on time and budget.

Leigh Jasper added: “The level of control and collaboration required for large-scale construction and resources projects are nearly impossible to achieve without an online information management service. We expect that, within a few years, online information management will become an industry standard.”

Aconex currently services more than 25,000 companies in 30 countries on projects valued in excess of US$60 billion. Aconex is one of Asia’s fastest growing companies (source: Deloitte) and global uptake of the Aconex service has tripled over the last 12 months.

The growth of Aconex in India has occurred alongside the backdrop of a report released by the Indian Government’s Planning Commission this year, which highlighted the adoption of new technologies as being essential to sustaining India’s construction growth.
