Global fall protection equipment specialist 3M has introduced a new full body harness designed to offer a high degree of comfort and fall protection to at-height workers.
The new DBI-SALA ExoFit STRATA full body harness is the latest fall protection and safety innovation from 3M. Designed and tested with data-driven, third-party research, the ExoFit STRATA is an innovative full body safety harness with several first-of-its-kind features such as the LIFTech Load Distribution System that takes the weight off a worker's shoulders and redistributes it down to the hips, reducing forces on the shoulders up to 85 percent when compared to leading harnesses.
Key features of the DBI-SALA ExoFit STRATA full body harness also include PolarMesh padding keeping the user’s back cooler with greater air flow; Revolver Vertical Torso Adjusters and Duo-Lock Quick Connect Buckles offering added security and helping workers adjust their harness to a perfect fit; EZ-Link Quick SRL Adapter helping workers efficiently attach their personal self retracting lifeline (SRL) such as the DBI-SALA Nano-Lok SRL, and reducing the time to connect and disconnect by up to 80 percent; and Tech-Lite Aluminium D-rings allowing for optimal reliability without adding significant weight to the harness.
According to Rick Millar, Technical Manager at 3M, the company focusses on maximising safety protection for at-height workers and provides fall protection solutions that complement the everyday work and demands of the job. Observing that workers need to be protected in the event of a fall, he noted that it was also important for them to be effective and comfortable during long hours on the job in all environments, and under all conditions.
ExoFit STRATA is a harness that supports wearers 100 percent of the time because it provides them with the mobility and comfort they need to function on the job.
The development of ExoFit STRATA full body harness began in July 2015 when 3M partnered with ergonomics specialists from the Sweere Center for Clinical Biomechanics and Applied Ergonomics at Northwestern Health Sciences University to create data-driven research that would further validate the need for greater innovation in harness development. After analysing key worker complaints such as the load on the back and shoulders, limited range of motion, and body temperature while wearing the harness, the ExoFit STRATA was developed incorporating several first-of-a-kind innovations that directly addressed these issues in a measureable way.
