Multinational practice ThomsonAdsett has appointed Wei Yap Ooi as its new national design director.

Wei Yap is a global award-winning architect with over 15 years' experience who has delivered design excellence on a variety of mixed use, health, education, seniors living, hospitality, retail and commercial projects.

Wei Yap’s professional projects have been recognised through many industry awards including the Victoria Architecture Medal (Australia Institute of Architects), Green Apple Environment Award, The Edge-PAM Green Excellence Award and has successfully achieved the highest level of BCA Singaporean ‘Green Mark’ Platinum Rating.

Wei Yap says, “We’re committed to our practice having a strong focus on design. Our team is constantly exposed to new ideas shared through internal workshops and mentoring.”

“The built environment industry and the major issues it faces are rapidly changing,” he says, adding that, “We’re looking into the future to determine what those changes might be, and how we can best support our clients moving forward.”

Wei Yap says the firm is already implementing strategies to better communicate architectural ideas to clients from all sectors.

“We’re streamlining our systems and processes, so our clients can benefit from thoroughly-considered design outcomes, both now and into the future.”

An architecture graduate from The University of Newcastle, where he also received the University Medal in 2001, Wei Yap has worked for a range of local and international practices and is a practice-based academic heavily involved in architectural education.

He has also worked as an academic, teaching at the University of Melbourne, University of Singapore, RMIT and Deakin University.
