The inaugural Habitus House of the Year competition jury has been carefully selected to represent a cross-section of the leading thinkers and do-ers in regional residential design.

In terms of the judging panel, Habitus founding editor Paul McGillick will be joined by Cubes magazine and Indesignlive.sg Editor Narelle Yabuka, architecture writer Karen McCartney, Burley Katon Halliday founder Neil Burley, and architect Howard Tanner.

Paul McGillick is a prominent, Sydney-based writer and editor in the fields of architecture, art and design.

He was formerly editorial director at Indesign Media for over 12 years where he also edited Indesign magazine, while also being the author of a number of books, essays and articles.

McGillick has also contributed to leading newspapers and magazines both in Australia and internationally and worked extensively in radio and television.

"Habitus is ideally placed to celebrate the best houses over the last 18 months from the Indo-Pacific region," says McGillick.

"Besides, no one has ever done it before!  Editor Holly Cunneen and I are delighted with the selection we have pulled together and I am looking forward as chair of the our top-notch judging panel to selecting three of the 25 houses for special commendations," he says.

For ten years, Habitus has shone a much-needed spotlight on the unique architecture, design, and art of the Indo-Pacific. Produced in the region but celebrated worldwide, Habitus has emerged as the leading global destination for A&D hunters in search of unique, inspiring projects that challenge conventional ideas about residential architecture and design.

Over the years Habitus has evolved across both print and digital platforms to present the best of regional design to readers in the most original, engaging ways – an evolution that reflects the amazing progress of architecture and design in this part of the world.

Emerging to keep up with the astounding growth across the region are a number of leading lights who have changed what it means not only to design but also live in the vibrant landscape of the Indo-Pacific.

The upcoming edition of Habitus will showcase a handpicked shortlist of the 20 best homes completed in our region within the past twelve months. To supplement this, five select projects will be exclusively hosted on Habitus Living online.

As always the shortlist will celebrate homes by established practitioners and emerging talents alike, creating a snapshot of the current state of regional design and foreshadowing what the next ten years may bring.

From this shortlist, an independent jury of design heavyweights will award top honours for the Habitus House of the Year, Exemplary Integration of Environment, and Outstanding Interior Architecture.
