The Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) announces Mark Chappe as the new president of the organisation.
Along with Chappe, Stephen Warne was elected senior vice president and Andrew Brady, junior vice president. Previously the senior vice president of AIQS, Chappe succeeds professor Anthony Mills, who will remain on the Board as treasurer.
Based in Canberra, Australia, Chappe has worked in the property and construction sector since 1978, bringing considerable industry experience to his new role. After a stint as senior partner at a quantity surveying practice in Durban, South Africa, he joined Rider Levett Bucknall in Australia in 1998, became national director in 2004, and is currently the managing director of the Canberra office.
Chappe has been actively involved with AIQS since 2002, serving in various positions including that of chapter president. Having joined the AIQS board of directors as an ACT chapter representative eight years ago, he has been serving as an Australian trustee of the International Construction Measurement Standards coalition for the past three years.
Commenting on his new role as AIQS president, Chappe says, “I am extremely honoured, proud and humbled to be elected as the president of this significant and prestigious Institute of built environment cost professionals, acknowledging the responsibility that the Institute has to its members and their clients, and at the same time I am very excited at taking on the challenges that lie ahead of us.
