The Building Designers Association of Victoria (BDAV) has revealed a shortlist of projects for its ‘People’s Choice’ category in the 2014 Building Design Awards (BDA).

Contenders for the People’s Choice award have been narrowed to 35 projects and will face public scrutiny, while all other entrants across the three major and 28 sub-categories will face jury contemplation.

Introduced in 1996, the awards aim to showcase the talents and expertise of building designers, and to encourage higher standards of excellence in design.

Now in its 19th year, the 2014 BDAV awards will be announced at the association’s Annual Dinner on Saturday, 26 July 2014.

BDAV President Michael O’Sullivan invited the public to view the People’s Choice shortlist and to celebrate the work of some of Victoria’s most talented building designers.

“The People’s Choice Award gives Victorians the chance to vote for the project which they believe shows an extraordinary level of creativity and expertise,” O’Sullivan said.

“Each project intertwines high calibre design with expert skill in a unique way and showcases the great work of building designers.”

The competition is open to Full Members of the BDAV who are also Registered Building Practitioners or Registered Architects at the closing date of the competition.

The only exception is entrants in the Student Category who must be third-year students studying for the Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural) at a recognised TAFE institution at the closing date of the competition.

The major award for the event is the Building Design of the Year, which will be selected as the most outstanding submission from the major award category winners.
