Introducing this year's Sustainability Live panel event

Tickets will soon be available for the 2018 Sustainability Live panel event on Thursday 11 October, 2018.

Following the success of the first Sustainability Live panel in 2017, we expect this year’s event to be bigger and better than before, necessitating a change of venue to The Star in Pyrmont, Sydney.

We have a long line-up of industry experts planned as speakers, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

The experts will speak on seven panels throughout the day, including six Q&A panels and one debate. Attendees will be eligible for six formal CPD points.

    Panel topics include:

How a greener built environment is changing the way we live and work

What is the science behind this trend and can it be readily quantified? And how does what we do in Australia compare with our regional neighbours like Singapore, where there is a legally-mandated 40 percent green replacement policy in all urban areas?

What are the incentives for sustainability, and are we missing the bigger picture?

Should planning restrictions on dwelling size and typology be relaxed? Do we need more social housing and how will this help sustainability in the built environment? And what about new building concepts?

How technology is helping to promote sustainability across the built environment

On one end of the spectrum, some believe that with enough technological innovation and development, we’ll figure out a way to solve our environmental problems. The other side believes we need to encourage only environmentally sustainable economic practices. Who is correct?

How to eliminate all waste in a residential build

With 25 percent of all waste coming from the building, construction and renovations sectors, how can we eliminate waste from the building and construction process once and for all?

Modern slavery in AEC supply chains – what are the solutions?

The United Nations estimates that more than 45 million people are entrapped in modern slavery across the world. Australian companies that work in the AEC industries can take steps to mitigate the risks of modern slavery, on their own sites and operations, and in their supply chains.

Mental health and the built industry

Join members from across the built environment as they talk about the impact of drugs and alcohol and what the various mental health issues mean for architects, engineers and construction industry employees, as well as for their customers and clients.

DEBATE: Is our continuing population growth a help or hindrance to ensuring a sustainable built environment?

Australia’s population growth and urbanisation affect virtually all development objectives, consumption, production, employment, income distribution, poverty and social protections. They also complicate our efforts to ensure universal access to health, education, housing, sanitation, water, etc. The question is where are we really heading, and do we need to change direction?
