Tony Owen Partners has announced that the Alpha Apartments in Lewisham, Sydney NSW is due to start construction in July this year.

The seven-storey building, which boasts 68 apartments, will feature a hexagonal pod-like façade that creates an environmental screen.  This screen controls light, allowing maximum exposure, but privacy as well.

Encompassing a selection of one, two and three bedroom apartments, the Alpha’s top levels will contain duo-storey ‘skyhomes’ with loft bedrooms and hexagonal metal pods that lead on to private rooftop garden terraces offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding parklands.  Its ground floors are devoted to retail and commercial spaces.

The apartments will also feature contemporary designs – the ‘Scandia’ uses a selection of timbers to create a fresh, modern feel with bright finishes, open kitchens and polished floorboards; the ‘Aalto’ has bold finishes with interesting lighting features, fun kitchens and polished concrete floor tiles.

Forming the cornerstone of the new McGill design site, the Alpha is part of a new collection of contemporary buildings and public open spaces.  Tony Owen Partners aims to create a new, mixed-use precinct that combines the heritage values and rich history of Lewisham with modern ecologically sustainable development.

The creation of a park through Hudson Street will provide accessibility to the new Light Rail station, which commences operation in 2014.

The Alpha Apartments will be located on the corner of McGill Street and Canterbury Road.
