An event in Sydney next month will bring together leading figures in construction to discuss mental health in the industry.

As part of Mental Health Month, cloud-based construction technology company, Procore, is hosting a luncheon to encourage open dialogue on topics that too often go undiscussed.

This is particularly important when we consider findings from MATES in Construction that construction workers are more than twice as likely to die from suicide as other people in Australia, and that they are six times more likely to die from suicide than an accident at work.

A Q&A between Ian Thorpe, one of Australia’s most successful Olympians, and Australian journalist and presenter Jeff McMullen will look at Thorpe’s own experience with depression. He will discuss how increased support, awareness and investment will empower construction workers to confront both their own and their colleagues’ mental health issues.

The event is organised in partnership with MATES in Construction, Hammer Technologies, Voyage Control and Cbus. It will take place at Sydney’s Sheraton on the Park on 18 October 2017.
