Sydney Design Festival will return to venues throughout Greater Sydney for its 20th anniversary in March 2018.

Next year’s festival will take on a new format from previous years, to become a collaborative platform where the majority of the events – exhibitions, installations, talks, workshops and tours – will be presented by practitioners. These events respond to the theme of ‘Call to Action’, and considers the role of design in addressing global issues.

“Action is purpose and movement; [action] is deliberate and forward-thinking,” reads a statement from Sydney Design Festival that explains both the new format and the theme.

“Design has a role to play in an ever-changing world and has the potential to solve complex global problems.”

Presented by the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) in Sydney, the festival is an annual event that brings together people, ideas and activities across creative industry sectors. Sydney Design Festival 2018 will run between 2 and 11 March 2018.

More announcements are expected in the coming weeks. A full program will be released in January 2018.
