Over 100 of Australia’s best environmentally sustainable homes will be open for public viewing on Sustainable House Day on 13 September 2015.

The initiative is a free national event that will allow people to inspect new homes and renovations as well as interact with homeowners, architects and designers to learn more about sustainable design, garden design, renewable energy and energy efficiency. Over 100 homes are part of the Sustainable House Day showcase this year.

Jointly run by the not-for-profit Alternative Technology Association (ATA) and EnviroShop, the Sustainable House Day aims to promote environmentally sustainable living.

Donna Luckman, chief executive of the ATA explains that the public could expect to see a range of innovative new builds and renovations. Visitors to these homes can view a range of innovations from aquaponics and backyard food farms to thermal mass walls, off-grid energy and beautiful renovations.

She adds that the Sustainable House Day is an excellent opportunity for everyone to be inspired about what they can achieve in their own home and garden.

The Sustainable House Day is open to anyone but prior registration is required to get the addresses of homes.

The 15th edition of the Sustainable House Day will be held on 13 September 2015 at various locations across Australia.
