Vo Trong Nghia Architects have designed a knot-shaped school building, complete with a functioning farm on its roof to educate 500 preschool children on the importance of sustainable education and design.

Built in the tropical climate of south east Vietnam, the ‘Farming Kindergarten’ features an accessible green roof that can grow plants and produce all year round.

The triple-ring shaped building design forms different levels and gradients, creating a series of distinct courtyards and playgrounds for the kindergarten’s pupils.

The outdoor areas extend onto the roof farm, which doubles as an outdoor classroom where children can learn how to grow their own food.

Energy efficient systems have been integrated and applied across the design, with recycled materials and water, solar-powered heating and concrete shading louvers incorporated throughout to teach children about energy saving processes.
