Engineers Australia is calling for nominations for its highly coveted Sydney Engineering Excellence Awards in the category of Young Professional Engineer.

The awards celebrate Professional Engineers, Entrepreneurs, Young Professional Engineers, Engineering Associates and Engineering Technologists, while recognising their impact on the community.

Engineers Australia, the peak body for professional engineers, technologists and associates, identifies, recognises, rewards and promotes individuals in Australian engineering, recognising those who contribute to the betterment of society through innovative practices.

Having won the title of Professional Engineer of the Year 2013, Standards Australia CEO Dr Bronwyn Evans believes the awards go a long way in recognising successful engineering achievements as well as inspirational engineers on their path to becoming important community leaders.

According to Dr Evans, the Excellence Awards are a pinnacle program, rewarding members of the community who stand out and lead the industry by example at all levels.

He adds that strong technical leadership needs to be coupled with good communication skills, political and financial acumen, and the ability to bring out the best in everyone in the organisation and further the community. The Excellence Awards highlight this ultimate combination of skills.

Dr Evans encourages people to nominate others or themselves, and for the wider community to join the association in recognising the engineering industry’s leaders.

Nominations are invited for the 2014 Sydney Engineering Excellence Awards with entries closing June 5, 2014. Winners will be announced on September 19, 2014.
