The JamFactory has teamed up with Stylecraft to launch a new biennial furniture design prize that will honour excellence in Australian furniture design.

Winners of the Australian Furniture Design Award (AFDA) will receive a $20,000 cash prize and significant mentoring with a residency at JamFactory's Adelaide-based Furniture Studio.

Additionally, the successful furniture prototype work will be acquired and displayed by the Art Gallery of South Australia.

The inaugural award will be judged by five national design personalities, including Tony Russell, national product and brand manager of Stylecraft, creative director of Furniture Design Studio, JamFactory Jon Goulder, presenter of By Design, Fenella Kernebone, principal of Woods Bagot, Rosina Di Maria, and Nick Mitzevich, director of Art Gallery of South Australia.

The judges will assess prototype concepts submitted online by designers who are either Australian or currently resident here.

Six finalists will be chosen to exhibit in Stylecraft showrooms across the country, with a winner announced in Adelaide during the first leg of the exhibition in July 2015.

Entries can be submitted through the AFDA website until the closing date of May 22, 2015.
