The rumoured romance between architect Mies van der Rohe and his client, Dr Edith Farnsworth during the commission of the Farnsworth House will soon be seen on screen with the story having captured the imagination of Hollywood producers.

Actors Jeff Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal, who last came together in 2009 for Crazy Heart, will once again team up to play the architect and the client, respectively. As reported by Showbiz 411’s Roger Friedman, the film will tell the story of the home’s construction – considered one of architecture’s greatest tales – and will also explore the turbulent relationship between Mies van der Rohe and Dr Edith Farnsworth.

Commissioned by Dr Edith Farnsworth, the 1500-square-foot one-room steel and glass house was designed and constructed by architect Mies van der Rohe as a weekend retreat. The intense relationship between the architect and his client soon deteriorated into a much publicised dispute about budget overruns, unpaid bills and lawsuits.

Further details of the film are awaited.
