This morning it was announced that METRON has won the contract for the underground station design and technical services (USDTS) as part of stage two of the Sydney Metro Project.

The Sydney Metro Project is the largest public transport project in Australia. In total, it will include 31 stages and 66 new kilometres of rail. Stage two of the project will see a 30km extension of the metro underneath Sydney harbour and through new stations within the CBD.

As part of their contract, METRON will be responsible for the engineering design of six underground metro rail stations. Architecture firms Foster + Partners and Architectus and engineers Arcadis, Mott MacDonald and Robert Bird Group are all part of METRON’s design consortium.

“Sydney Metro will be one of the most transformational projects in NSW since the Sydney Harbour Bridge and we are very excited to bring our combination of global experience and Australian intel to the project,” says Anthony Venturini, managing director of building and urban development at Arcadis.
