McGregor Coxall has expanded their design team with the appointment of a new director to lead the Melbourne studio as well as two new senior members to lead the Urbanism and Environment teams in Sydney.

While Christian Borchert will be the new Director and Melbourne Studio leader, Tom Rivard will head the Urbanism sector and David Knights will lead the Environment sector.

Christian Borchert, Director

Appointed as a Director in the Melbourne Studio, Christian Borchert will lead the Melbourne design team. A qualified architect and a registered landscape architect, Borchert has spent the past 12 years at McGregor Coxall as a designer on some of the firm’s most prestigious projects including the Australian Garden at the National Gallery, Ballast Point Park in Sydney and the University of Adelaide’s new clinical facility. 

Tom Rivard, Associate

The new head of the Urbanism sector for Australia, Rivard is an urbanism academic, architect and director of the annual Sydney Urban Islands program. With a qualification in architecture from UPenn and more than 25 years of experience in architecture and urban design, he is currently completing a PhD and also teaches at the UTS. Rivard is working on large scale urban renewal strategies and sustainable master plans for the public and private sector across McGregor Coxall’s global studios.

David Knights, Associate Director

A WSUD water engineering specialist and an environmental engineer, David Knights joins McGregor Coxall from Alluvium where he served as a director. Knights brings more than 15 years of experience in sustainable water management, waterway restoration and green infrastructure to his new role. As a consultant he partnered with McGregor Coxall for 10 years on many of the firm’s award-winning WSUD projects. As the new lead for the firm’s environment sector in Sydney, David will spearhead their sustainable energy and water projects.

McGregor Coxall Founding Director Adrian McGregor said that Christian, David and Tom bring wide-ranging project experience to their roles, enhancing the capability and intelligence of their global studios.
