Woods Bagot announces the appointment of a new aviation design specialist to help the architecture firm tap into new opportunities in the global aviation industry.

Matthew Abbott has joined the Woods Bagot team as the Regional Aviation Sector Leader for Australia and New Zealand. Boasting an extensive aviation pedigree, Abbott brings to his new role over 10 years of experience in global aviation projects in the Middle East, Russia, United States, Italy and Ireland. At Woods Bagot, Abbot will be responsible for the Australian and New Zealand region, with a strong emphasis on Perth Airport and Sydney Airport.

Stating that he looked forward to opening up new regions and opportunities for Woods Bagot never seen before in aviation, he said he was excited for the new challenges and experiences that Woods Bagot will offer.

Abbott said working alongside the likes of Frank Alvarez, a world leader in retail environments, along with sectors such as Lifestyle will help to redefine the future of aviation design.

Abbott adds that there are huge opportunities in Asia, which up until now have been untapped by Woods Bagot. Similarly, working on London’s Gatwick Airport will open the door to more aviation opportunities in Europe.

Abbott’s work in his new role will be supported by Woods Bagot’s access to innovation and exemplar tools such as the sector intelligence framework, TIES (capturing trends, innovations and exemplar projects), and SuperSpace.

Global Aviation and Transport Sector Director James Berry said it was fantastic to have Abbott join the Woods Bagot team, given his wealth of experience at the most significant airports in the UK, Middle East, Russia and more recently Australia. Welcoming Abbot to the firm, he said he looked forward to his successful contribution to the 40 per cent growth in the Transport sector planned for the coming year.
