Italcementi has developed a biodynamic cement for the construction of Palazzo Italia, the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2015.

The Pavilion’s architectural design, by Nemesi & Partners, envisages the construction of a complex structure inspired by the shapes of tress branches.

The entire outdoor surface and part of the interiors will consist of Italcementi’s i.active Biodynamic cement panels, whose high-workability allows the creation of complex shapes like those found in the pavilion design.

The cement’s ‘bio’ component comes from the incorporated photocatalytic properties of the Italcementi patented TX Active solution.

TX Active harnesses solar energy to break down harmful air pollutants and convert them into inert salts, helping to purify the atmosphere from smog.

Additionally, the cement is made from 80 per cent recycled aggregates, including scraps of Carrara marble, which will help ensure an extraordinary surface quality.
