The NSW Government has approved the concept proposal for the new Northern Beaches Hospital. Planning approval for the concept proposal and Stage 1 site clearing has been given, enabling work to start on the new hospital.

Minister for Planning Pru Goward said the approval is another step forward in delivering on their commitment of better health services to families on the Northern Beaches. Construction is expected to begin next year, and the hospital will open in 2018.

The proposed hospital will be equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to provide a minimum of 423 beds, a large emergency department, and mental health, surgical, medical, maternity, paediatric and ambulatory care services for all patients on the Northern Beaches. The health services can be accessed the same way as now, except that they won’t have to travel outside the Northern Beaches to receive treatment.

The project is being planned with close community consultation to ensure local concerns are addressed while continuing to deliver better health services for the Northern Beaches and minimising any potential impacts on the community.
