Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie has paid rich tributes to asbestos campaigner Raymond Colbert, who recently passed away.

Mr Bleijie described Ray as a tireless champion for fellow sufferers of asbestos-related diseases, adding that the input from Ray and the Asbestos Related Disease Support Society Queensland was integral during the development of the Government’s Statewide Strategic Plan for the Safe Management of Asbestos.

According to Mr Bleijie, Ray was so committed that he would at times work through the plan’s detail with the Minister’s staff from a hospital bed. He acknowledged Ray’s role in Queensland having the most comprehensive and rigorous asbestos management strategy of its kind in Australia.

Mr Bleijie added that Ray’s legacy will be better awareness about the dangers and safer management of asbestos and the Government will continue to strive to make Queensland’s worksites the safest in the country.
