New Zealand designer Mal Corboy has won the top prize at the national awards for the Kitchen and Bathroom Designers Institute of Australia (KBDI).

Corboy won the Australian Certified Designer of the Year award as well as the Medium Kitchen of the Year, Tasmanian, and Victorian Kitchen Designer of the year and Large Kitchen Victoria/Tasmania (special commendation).

Corboy won the Australian Kitchen Designer of the Year Award in 2009.

The awards event held last week saw many of Australia’s best kitchen and bathroom designers recognised for their contributions to kitchen and bathroom design over the past year.

With over 100 entrants; some with multiple designs, judges commented on the high standard of entries, saying the standard has risen each year of the awards.

“I was confident in my work, but I couldn’t take anything for granted with such an impressive line-up of great designs in the competition,” says Corboy.

“It’s such a great honour to be recognised for my designs, and I’m really grateful to the judges and everyone who has supported me getting to this point”.

Corboy, a Hettich brand ambassador, says both his award-winning designs featured an extensive use of Hettich cabinetry hardware, storage solutions and lighting.

As the winner of the Designer of the Year Award, Corboy will take part in the KBDi International Designers Tour and travel to Italy for Eurocucina; the world’s premiere expo for kitchen and bathroom design, product and accessories.
