Australian projects were in full force at this year’s World Architecture News (WAN) Awards, which showcased a wide range of architectural projects from around the world.

A total of eight Australian projects were shortlisted across a number of categories, as well as an Australian practice who is in the running for the inaugural Practice of the Year category.

Among the Australian shortlisted projects is Glasshouse at Goonoo Goonoo Station by TKD Architects. The glass box restaurant in rural New South Wales is located on the site of the 1831 Goonoo Goonoo Station. Inspired by the site’s rural past, the new building – which accommodates up to 90 guests – sits as a modern addition between a 1950s shearing shed and a brick wool store from the 1870s. The project made the shortlist for the Commercial category.

Other shortlisted projects from Australia include Mandeville Centre by Architectus, 57 Macquarie St by Aleksandar Design Group, and Caravanserai – Off-grid Farmhouse by Lai Cheong Brown.

The winners of the 2017 WAN Awards will be announced in London on 28 February 2018.
