Australia's Tanya Cox has been appointed to the board of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), the umbrella organisation supporting more than 75 green building councils around the world.

A property expert with a passion for sustainability, Cox has more than 20 years of experience as a director on a wide range of boards, was the chief operating officer of the $17.6 billion DEXUS Property Group for over a decade, and is a member of the NSW Climate Change Council and current chair of the Green Building Council Australia.

WorldGBC CEO Terri Wills observed that the depth of  Cox’s commercial experience, along with her sharp business acumen and strong governance background will add extra depth to an already powerful board.

According to Wills, Tanya’s commitment, expertise and strong leadership qualities, which have contributed to Australia’s status as a world leader in green building, are being recognised with the WorldGBC appointment.

Australia’s property industry has been named the ‘global green leader’ for five consecutive years, according to the annual Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB), and Australian companies frequently top the table in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index.

Cox observes that the growing momentum for change following the COP21 Climate Change pact presents the global property and construction sector with an unrivalled opportunity to show leadership and act with purpose. She added that she was honoured to be part of this global movement working together towards a zero carbon future.

Comprising of senior leaders from 15 green building councils around the world, including the United States, Germany, India, Singapore, Colombia and Jordan, the WorldGBC Board of Directors guides the organisation’s strategy to ensure successful delivery of mission goals.
