A few last ditched efforts to save the Tao Gofers-designed Sirius apartment building at The Rocks in Sydney are being put in place, despite its demolition being all but secured.

The latest comes in the form of a fundraising event from Man About the House producers, Tim Ross and Kit Warhurst, from which funds will be devoted to the Save Our Sirius Foundation.

The duo will host a seminar inside the apartment building in late August in a bid to raise awareness about the building’s architectural merit and secure dollars for foundation trying to save it.

Man about Sirius Apartments will be in a similar format to Ross and Warhurst’s past Man About the House events with the only difference being that this event will be more in the form of an obituary than a birth announcement.

At the end of last month the New South Wales Government announced it would deny Gofer’s brutalist social housing project a heritage listing because of the financial implications and would begin drafting a stage one development application for the 3647sqm site.

This came much to the dismay of the architecture community, however it was a decision welcomed by the key figures of the property industry.

The one-hour Man about Sirius Apartments show is to be held on Saturday, 20 August in the Phillip Room of the apartment building.

Proceeds will go to assist the Save our Sirius Foundation.
