Onyx, a display home by Better Building Services, was honoured with the ‘House of the Year’ title at the annual Master Builders ACT ‘Building Excellence Awards’ held recently in Canberra.

The black-tie event brought together the industry and wider business community to recognise and acknowledge the excellence in craftsmanship, quality, safety and building construction within the ACT building community.

Located in Denman Prospect, ACT, the MBA award-winning display home project by Better Building Services, DNA Architects and Sugar Designs was designed for the Canberra climate.

Better Building Services won five awards on the night, and House of the Year was his 100th MBA Award win.

Michael Hopkins, CEO of Master Builders ACT said that the 2018 awards were highlighted by a number of themes seen in various entries and nominated finalists.

According to Hopkins, innovation in building has seen the creation of spaces that will influence the lives of Canberrans in areas such as education, health and community.

Commenting on the emergence of a new generation of builders in the industry, he said it was reflected in this year’s awards where the median age of finalists and winners dropped considerably.

The building community now looked to these emerging leaders to take them into the future.
