Lend Lease and Commonwealth Bank of Australia have taken out the 2012 Banksia Built Environment Award - Harmonious Manmade Landscapes for the Darling Quarter and Commonwealth Bank Place development.

With design led by architects FJMT and landscape architects Aspect Studios, Darling Quarter and Commonwealth Bank Place development was acclaimed as an important example of two major private industry stakeholders, Lend Lease and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, working collaboratively with government to push the boundaries and set new benchmarks for the creation of urban precincts for people to work, visit and enjoy.

“We are delighted to be recognised by Banksia for some of our impactful environmental programs. As one of Australia's largest organisations, we are committed to delivering long-term value to our customers, people, shareholders and the community" says Tristan Landers, Executive General Manager Corporate Sustainability.

While innovation and technology have been important factors in the design of the commercial buildings, the Darling Quarter precinct was praised as it highlights the importance of place making initiatives to ensure long-term activation. The emphasis on social sustainability extends from the interior fit-out concept of Activity Based Working (ABW) through to the public domain.

About the Banksia Awards
The Banksia Awards program celebrates the achievements of Australians who have made a significant contribution to the sustainable future of this country in “living better” and “working better”; through their leadership and innovative ways in managing environmental and societal improvements.

The Banksia Environmental Award entries go through a three part judging process by Banksia’s national volunteer team of judges. Banksia judges are experts in their field and their expertise are matched to the relevant category.
