Design Brief

The brief was to design a building consisting of two indoor bowling green’s which were to be free of internal columns.

A bar, restaurant, amenities and administration were also required, but the client wanted the building to to be spacious, naturally ventilated and filled with natural light.

The client’s tight budget also meant the building needed to be cost effective.

Design Solution

To meet the client’s requirements, the building was designed as a light weight construction to be cost effective.

The building was also orientated North-South to allow natural light to spill through the energy efficient high level poly carbonate sheeting.

Steel louvers to the front and rear of the building allow natural ventilation to flow through the building.

The indoor bowling greens were to be column free, therefore intermediate columns were not an option. The design of wide span steel trusses allowed a cost effective, yet aesthetically pleasingly solution.

A glass wall between the bowling rinks and restaurant, links the two spaces together, while an abundance of high performance glazing on the external walls make use of the northern orientation.

Neutral colours were chosen to maintain a soft pleasant feel throughout the restaurant and the playing area is clad with Colorbond Custom Orb to offset the contemporary colours of the bowling carpet with a more traditional country material.
