The Housing Industry Association (HIA) has announced it will convene the State of the Industry Roundtable at Parliament House in Canberra next week, ‘in response to the dire state of the residential building industry and the need for concerted policy action’.

The roundtable will canvass possible solutions to address the current recessionary levels of home building, which has seen housing activity contract for four straight quarters.

Participants will include industry leaders, consisting of some of the nation's largest builders and building product manufacturers.

The keynote address is to be delivered by the Federal Minister for Housing, Homelessness and Small Business, Brendan O'Connor.

It will consider analysis by the Centre for International Economics (CIE) into the economic contribution of residential building and the vital role of housing in underpinning social and economic participation of Australians.
