Australand has agreed to sponsor the Green Star - Communities rating tool currently being developed by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

The council expects the Green Star - Communities rating tool to become a national voluntary standard for the planning, design and delivery of best practice sustainable community development projects across Australia.

According to the GBCA’s chief executive, Romilly Madew, the project is the most ambitious in the council’s nine year history, and has support from all of Australia's state government land organisations, some of Australia’s largest local authorities, leading developers, academic institutions and industry.

“Australand’s contribution to the Green Star - Communities project will be fundamental in helping us to identify best practice standards across the planning,

delivery and performance of sustainable communities,” Madew says.

Australand’s Executive General Manager of Residential, Rod Fehring, says that “while master planning and developing communities is as much an art as it is a process, we need ways to better measure the quality of what we do and how well we deliver on the promises we make when creating places for people to live their lives."

“Australand is not only pleased to be an active sponsor of this important initiative but also acknowledges its responsibility to constructively contribute to improving the performance of the industry.”

Madew commended the sponsor, adding: “Green Star - Communities will help us manage our natural resources, minimise our environmental footprint and create places that are healthy, liveable and provide opportunities for people and economies to prosper.”
