Clubs can save water and reduce costs using new guidelines developed by Sydney Water. The guidelines include practical tips for improving water efficiency, case studies and checklists to help clubs reduce water use.

“The hospitality sector accounts for about 14 per cent of all water used by businesses or about the same amount of water 100,000 households each year. Up to a third of this water is lost through leaks,” says Kerry Schott, Sydney Water’s managing director.

“The guidelines contain information about new technology, use of alternative water sources such as rainwater, stormwater and greywater and the range of rebates and offers available from Sydney Water to help reduce the up-front costs of improving water efficiency.”

Clubs to cut water use include Mounties at Mount Pritchard, which is saving over 100,000 litres of water per day, St Marys Leagues Club, which has cut water use by 64 per cent, and the North Ryde Golf Course, which has reduced water use in its kitchen by 85 per cent.

Schott says Sydney Water’s studies show that clubs can implement water efficiency projects that will pay for themselves in less than two years.
