The Australian Institute of Architects will launch a special exhibition celebrating the shortlisted projects of the 2012 National Architecture Awards in Canberra on Thursday 8 November.

To be held at the Gallery of Australian Design, the free exhibition will feature creative installations, sculptures, finely crafted models, sketches, animations and videos of some of Australia’s most significant projects.

The exhibition encapsulates the outstanding work that Australian architects continue to deliver, at all scales, both nationally and internationally.

The institute says visitors will be able experience the built environment in a way they have never done so before – gaining insight into the entire design process from conception through to construction and beyond.

Brian Zulaikha, the 2012 National Awards’ Jury Chair and Immediate Past President noted: “The jury were incredibly impressed by the calibre of projects viewed resulting in all visited projects being shortlisted.

“These outstanding architecture works will make for an exciting and dynamic exhibition showcasing the incredible talent of our nation."

Celebrating excellence in architecture, the National Architecture Awards will be announced on 1 November in Perth and are the most prestigious awards in the design and construction industry, influencing architects, clients and aspiring designers alike.

Through raising awareness of the value of design quality, the Institute aims to support the important contribution architects make to a more sustainable, economically buoyant, healthy and beautiful built environment. Architects have both the desire and capability to contribute to better social outcomes, in a range of ways, and have a responsibility to do so.

The awards will be announced at Perth’s Midland Railway Workshops.
