Woods Bagot has appointed Eugene Cheah to the position of design leader at the firm’s Lifestyle sector.

To be based in Woods Bagot’s Brisbane studio, Eugene brings extensive experience across all stages of architectural services, with a particular focus on residential design and exceptional project delivery.

Woods Bagot Brisbane studio leader and principal Mark Damant says that Eugene’s appointment complements an already-strong Lifestyle team, adding that the team is excited to harness Eugene’s residential design expertise to assist the studio in tapping into Brisbane’s growing residential market.

For over 15 years Eugene has been involved in the architectural industry, primarily in the roles of project director, lead designer and project team leader. He has successfully designed and delivered a wide range of projects, including urban master plans, multi-residential developments and individual dwellings, as well as healthcare projects.

Prior to joining Woods Bagot, Eugene held leadership positions at BVN Donovan Hill and Bates Smart, leading high-profile projects such as the Spring Street Development (CBUS and Centuria), Convesso Residential Development, Docklands (Lend Lease), Christchurch Health Precinct Master Plan, and Dandenong Hospital Emergency Department and Mental Health Facility.

He also combines design-focused professional practice with ongoing involvement in academia through teaching and research, where his academic work is focused on the innovation of architecture through application of emerging technologies in design practice.

Eugene has won several architectural awards and competitions in Australia, Asia, Europe and the US, including the Victorian Premier’s Design Award, and has had work published both in Australia and internationally. He was also recognised by The Age as one of Melbourne’s most promising young architects.
