Sydney University’s new double degree in architecture kicks off this month, the first of its kind offered in Australia.

The degree will combine a Bachelor of Design in Architecture with the postgraduate Master of Architecture in a five-year course. Those who complete the degree will also attain an undergraduate Honours which would otherwise require an additional full year of study.

According to the university, demand for the five-year degree has exceeded expectations despite having a limited intake and an ATAR requirement of 97.00.

Offers for admission into the new degree recorded the highest median ATAR of any architecture, design or urban planning tertiary course in New South Wales, adding weight to claims that the it will carry a high level of prestige within the industry and provide a high-level employability for graduates.

Earlier this month the University of Sydney was announced Australia’s top performing architecture school in Quacquarelli Symonds’ (QS) 2017 World University Rankings.
