Last week, the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) announced the winners of the 2017 National Landscape Architecture Awards.

From 81 entries, 28 projects were recognised across 14 categories. These categories included Parks & Open Space, Urban Design, Landscape Planning, and Garden Landscapes.

Among the awarded projects was TCL’s garden at the Woods Marsh Architects-designed Towers Road Residence. Emerging like a monolithic ancient temple from a bed of overgrown vegetation, the striking sculptural qualities of the residence are exaggerated by the dense layers of foliage that conceal it. The rear garden features a range of trees, shrubs, perennials and ground covers that are made navigable by a series of arbours, stepping stones and hidden paths. TCL’s project received a National Award of Excellence for Garden Landscapes.

Other awarded projects included the Wootten Road Reserve Interpretation Space by Glas Landscape Architects, K2K Urban Design by Hill Thalis/JMD Design, and Cool Streets Pilot Project by Libby Gallagher Studio.

Of the 28 recognised projects, nine received the highest prize, the National Award of Excellence. These projects are listed below.
