Currently on show in New Dehli, India, Orproject’s ‘Vana’ installation simulates the growth of trees using a digitally generated tensile system.

The concept is based on the venation patterns found in the arrangement of veins in natural objects such as leaves and insect wings.

The Vana installation consists of a set of “seed points”, which slowly grow and branch out, forming four tree-like trunks that stretch up to the gallery ceiling.

As the trees grow and move they expose LEDs, illuminating the surrounding space with an immersive glow.

The lights shine through geometric perforations in the tessellated paper segments that make up the tree’s branches.
