The Renato D'Ettorre Architects entry involved the restoration and modification of a heritage-listed three storey late Victorian Italianate-style C1890’s terrace house and C1860’s sandstone stable in inner Sydney.
The concept was to translate a 1990’s office fit-out into a modern-day residence preserving the historic style of the building while inserting a brave and very contemporary atmosphere inside.
It’s a restoration and brave conversion of an existing heritage-listed 1880’s three storey Victorian Italianate-style terrace house with carriageway.
With modifications to the rear wing and restoration and modification to the sandstone stable, restoration of rear stone fences and an addition of a concrete carport with landscaped roof terrace located at the rear of ‘L’ shaped site in Surry Hills, Sydney.
As owner/builders, the construction and contractual obligation were under the owner’s full control with collaboration between the client and architect allowing continual design review during construction. This allowed for the ability to ensure that suitable construction measures and funds were appropriated for structural modifications to the historic buildings.
