The Shed by Anderson Architecture is a finalist in the Single Dwelling - New category. The Shed is a detached secondary dwelling house, fundamentally influenced by thermal and solar passive design principles and sustainable technologies.

Perceptions of space and lightness, visual and physical connections to nature, the wellness of the occupant and the ability for the dwelling to adapt over time and achieve climate resilience also significantly affected the design process, leading to the incorporation of features such as the LVL portal frame - bolt fixed to ensure that it can be disassembled and its members reused in future if so required- and the first floor roof garden.

The ground floor hosts a multipurpose garage space, accessible off the rear lane way, which accommodates the client's workstation, laundry, powder room and car space.

To the east of the garage, the dining, living and kitchen are incorporated within a double height space. Both the Living and Garage spaces feature 2.7m tall spotted gum timber framed sliding doors which stack to ensure uninterrupted passage from indoors out to the garden.

A blackbutt timber staircase with a reclaimed boat oar balustrade provides access to the first floor, consisting of a bathroom with operable skylight and a generous bedroom with views through strategically placed windows into the roof garden and out to the west.
