The National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC) Queensland 2009 Crystal Vision Awards were held on 25 September, recognising some of Queensland's best women in construction.

Less than 3 per cent of construction trade workers in Queensland are women, so the awards aim to encourage more women to consider a career in construction.

The CityWorks Crystal Vision Award was won by Nicolle Sparkes of Laing O'Rourke. Sparkes' success was due to her focus on company policy and legislation, combined with a dedication to establish, lead and manage cross-functional project teams.

This year, entrants were judged on a range of criteria including best practise, innovation, initiative, technical complexity, challenges overcome and future aspirations.

The Thiess Award for Achievement in Design went to Gillian White of Leighton and the Cement Australia Award for Achievement in Marketing, Community Engagement and Communication was awarded to Wendy Dooley from Abigroup Contractors.
