One of the fastest growing areas in Queensland has achieved the highest available rating for sustainable precincts in Australia, a 6-star Green Star – Communities v1.1 certified rating.

Lendlease’s project in Yarrabilba was assessed for its sustainability performance across five impact categories: governance, liveability, economic prosperity, environment and innovation. It received a total rating of 84 points, which exceeded the minimum 75 points required for the 6-star Green Star rating.

Some of Yarrabilba’s high-scoring sustainable initiatives include the CSIRO Virtual Power station study, fast electric vehicle charger, sustainable display home, recognition and integration of the cultural heritage of the site’s long history, and commitment to education, skills and training.

“Innovation has been key to the community’s success, continually re-evaluating past achievements in the pursuit of more innovative solutions that redefine the benchmarks of best practice,” says Matthew Wallace, managing director of Lendlease’s Communities business.

“Sixty-seven Yarrabilba households are currently trialling a Virtual Power Station 2.0 developed by the CSIRO which has helped residents save up to 60 percent on their electricity bills.”

“An affordably priced sustainable display home is also under construction, which will feature innovative design solutions, and will be built by Logan-based social enterprise Access to upskill the area’s long-term unemployed and disadvantaged groups.”

Upon completion, Yarrabilba will be home to more than 45,000 residents in around 17,300 dwellings, supported by a town centre, neighbourhood and community hubs, 11 schools, over 100 hectares of mixed industry and business activities, extensive parklands and recreational facilities.
