NewTechWood’s composite decking boards and castellation cladding fit right into this light-filled home in Canberra, allowing for the seamless flow of indoor and outdoor spaces.

Located in the suburb of Curtin, ACT, this striking four-bedroom home was designed by Studio 187, a Canberra-based boutique design studio that offers both building and interior design services for residential projects.

The builder, Status Living wanted to create a modern, luxury home; the single-storey design meant that the property’s scale would fit comfortably in the street without dominating the existing houses.

“The house was a knock-down rebuild in an existing suburb. The builder’s design request was to create a modern, light-filled home that was both functional and luxurious, and would appeal to a wide range of buyers,” Samantha Willimott of Studio 187 said.

“This has been achieved by creating lots of connection between the living spaces and the outdoors; using a modern colour palette and materials; and incorporating things such as built-in joinery throughout,” Samantha explained.

NewTechWood’s timber-look castellation cladding and Terrace range of decking have embedded perfectly into that connection.

NewTechWood – A perfect fit for indoor-outdoor living

“It was always envisaged that a castellated cladding would be used on the exterior. Both timber and composite products were considered. However, given the large quantity of cladding to be used, we were drawn to the ultra-low-maintenance benefits of the composite. There is a large garage door with cladding on the front, and the weight restrictions for that led us to use NewTechWood,” Samantha said.

“We were also drawn to the ‘Aged Wood’ colour — it offered a brilliant combination of looking modern, yet fitting well within the established surroundings. We also liked that the colour was a bit unique.”

According to Samantha, the cladding was a real standout on the property, and Terrace decking in Teak perfectly blended into the setting. Many buyers were surprised it was not natural timber, and the fact that it required next-to-no maintenance was a real drawcard for them.

Sharing his impressions about using NewTechWood, Status Living director Matthew Bellingham said, “We wanted a good-looking, pre-finished castellated cladding, and NewTechWood met these requirements. It was a very easy-to-use system, with little movement compared to other manufactured wood-like products. NewTechWood also offers a good range of colour options and accessories.”

“Although this property was built as a spec home (designed to have broad market appeal by meeting the needs of the typical buyer profile in the area), this high-end residential build has easily broken the suburb record with a $2.7 million sale, beating the previous record by $200,000,” he explained.

“This home is a splendid example that using premium quality building materials, the quality of finishes, as well as high-end design and building services can enhance the value of your property.”

This suburban Canberra home features a highly-functional floor plan, naturally-lit interior spaces with open-plan living and dining areas, a seamless flow of indoor-outdoor living spaces, and high-quality fixtures and fittings, creating a precious asset for its new owners.
