NewTechWood composite decking and fascia board played an important role in realising the vision of the owners of a new custom-built home in Warragul, VIC. Architect Shaun McClements from SBM Design & Drafting incorporated the design ideas of the client to help deliver a family home that not only complemented the block but also captured the beautiful views outside. The house has been designed so that its south side captures the best view of the Strzelecki Ranges and the town of Warragul in the Gippsland region of Victoria.

The home was built by Allchin Builders, a Victoria-based building company founded in 2010 by prominent local Gippsland builder, Leigh Allchin. Allchin builders are custom builders, specialising in unique homes of the highest standard, with modern materials and a contemporary aesthetic.

For their new home, the owners sought wide-open access from the living and dining spaces to the alfresco area; an oversized master bedroom with the space to enjoy views; access to the open deck from the master bedroom; a built-in BBQ area with sink and bench and a retaining wall; and fencing with a private lawn area for small kids.

Allchin Builders was able to meet all requests and include them in the design of this contemporary home.

“As all of our homes are custom, they are designed to suit the block to get the most out of what the block has to offer. The home is split level and designed with large windows and all major living areas on the south side of the home to capture the view of the Strzelecki Ranges and the town of Warragul,” Leigh Allchin, founder of Allchin Builders said.

NewTechWood: Bring your interiors outside

The alfresco and lawn areas are also situated on the south side of the home, where NewTechWood composite decking has been used for the steps, verandah and fence. The homeowners chose the Terrace Range of composite decking in ‘Teak’. Approximately 170 lengths of decking and 198 lengths of fascia board were used.

With the client seeking a low-maintenance, durable product that would tie in with their internal timber flooring, NewTechWood composite decking was the perfect fit for the requirement. The material was supplied by local NewTechWood supplier Dahlsens Warragul.

Allchin Builders constructed ‘floating look’ steps and landings to the front of the home on the east side to create more of a visual impact from the road and help bring out the colour of the greenery and recycled red bricks. As the home is elevated above the road, they also allow safe access to the front verandah and door.
