A Philips lighting solution has helped Westfield achieve a 5-star NABERS Energy rating and a 6-star Green Star rating for their 10-floor office in Sydney.

The world’s largest retail property group, Westfield has operations at 40 centres in major cities around the world. The company sought a lighting system for their Sydney office that would put them ahead in sustainability too.

Philips installed the Dynalite control system, which uses Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) technology to deliver increased energy savings by monitoring and controlling lighting. The Dynalite system eliminates the need for manual adjustment of lighting by automatically dimming the light whenever rooms are empty, or when there is sufficient daylight.

A total of 300 DALI fittings were installed in the building, consisting of a range of energy-efficient LED and fluorescent luminaires. Managed globally through a central computer, the lighting installation has been designed to ensure a comfortable level of light throughout the building at all times. However, employees can manually adjust the lighting levels if desired.

The Philips lighting system has created a new benchmark in energy savings, comfort and flexibility, and the Dynalite control system is designed for a simple upgrade, making it an excellent long-term investment.

In addition to achieving a 5-star NABERS Energy rating and a 6-star Green Star rating, Westfield has been able to reduce energy consumption by 30 per cent, drastically lowering electricity costs.
